Basic Navigation & Safety
This 2 day course is the perfect introduction for anyone new to sailing, motor boating, sea angling, RIBS, diving etc. It gives very basic information for awareness for safe operation of a small vessel in coastal waters.
Day Skipper
A 5 day course covering in more depth the basics of seamanship, coastal navigation, pilotage, etc. aimed at those wishing to safely skipper a vessel in coastal waters.
Yachtsmaster Offshore
This 5 day course is for the more experienced skipper and covers advanced navigation and meteorology to enable the making of safe passages offshore day & night. This course covers the theory required for RYA/ MCA Coastal Skipper & Yachtmaster Offshore practical examinations.
Diesel Engine
A 7 hour course covering the basic principles of operation, maintenance and simple fault finding. A single cylinder water cooled diesel engine and other engine parts are used for demonstration purposes.
Radar
A 7 hour course covering the setting up,
limitations, capabilities and use of radar for navigation,
pilotage, & collision avoidance. Simple but realistic PC
simulators are used.
SRC/VHF Radio
A 7 hour course using both radio & PC simulators, including final assessment for the S.R.C.
All course fees vary according to numbers attending, venue and travel costs, but typical price for a SRC course in Hartlepool is £45 + RYA cert fee of £25.
For those who are able to learn the subject without attending a course, direct examination is also possible with an RYA exam fee of £65 after April 2008. Course guidance notes are available.
